Mary Kom wins gold at Asian Games, Bhansali overjoyed

May Kom has done us proud. She is the first woman boxer to win a gold medal at the Asian Games.

And Sanjay Leela Bhansali, who co-produced the recently-released bio-pic on her life that is now in its fourth week in theatres across the country, is filled with pride. "She is a true hero. I am not surprised by her victory. I expected her to bring the gold home from the Asian Games. Mary has the tenacity and the passion. These are qualities that prompted us to make a film on her life in the first place." Omung Kumar, who directed her bio-pic, just can't stop smiling.

Says Omung, "The whole team of our film was praying for her to win. Mary Kom has proved that if you have zidd in your heart you could achieve anything. We are so happy for and so proud of our true hero Mary Kom. She has done the country proud." Darshan Kumaar, who played Mary Kom's husband in the bio-pic says, "We are all super-proud of the super-woman. Congrats Mary for the wonderful victory. You've made India shine with your gold. I feel blessed to have been part of a film about your life." Just before the Asian Games, Mary Kom had said to this writer, "I am now all geared up for the Asian Games. And if I win, a new chapter in my life will begin." Viacom 18 the producers of the film Mary Kom are keen to continue Mary Kom's saga.
