Farah Khan writes lyrics for a song in Happy New Year

21 Oct 2014

Choreographer turned filmmaker Farah Khan has now dipped her hands into penning down lyrics. While it's her cousin Farhan Akhtar and her uncle Javed Akhtar who mastered it, Farah too seems to be giving it a shot. Going a step further for her dream project Happy New Year , Farah Khan wrote the lyrics of the song 'Nonsense Ki Night' . During the making of the song, it seems that lyricist Irshad Kamil was out of town and the lyrics that Vishal-Shekhar and Farah Khan had in hand weren't in sync with the film's scenario. Moreover, they were falling short of time since they had to complete the song in a day. Hence, they decided to pen down the lyrics all by themselves. Farah, being the director of the film, wanted a catchy song with humour and hence decided to translate popular Hindi idioms in English. While she put her assistant director in charge of finding the best Hindi idioms, some of the famous ones included 'Dance not coming, courtyard crooked' ( naach na jaane aangan teda ), 'Eating cake by being stupid' ( yeda banke peda khaaye ) among others. However, Farah Khan chose only idioms that will rhyme in order to maintain the flow of the song. She also appreciated Vishal for coming up with the line 'I'm alright because it is Nonsense Ki Night' . Produced by Red Chillies Entertainment, Happy New Year stars Shah Rukh Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, Deepika Padukone, Sonu Sood, Boman Irani, Vivaan Shah and Jackie Shroff. The film is about five losers and once dancer who together plot a plan to rob a huge amount under the pretext of participating in an international dance show. The film is slated to release this week, on October 24.
