Who will be signed for 2 States - PC Asin or Deepika

7 Jun 2012

2 States is back in news and while there are rumours abound that Imran Khan has been signed to play the male lead in the film, the slot is still open for the female lead. Few contenders who have emerged for the role are Deepika Padukone, Asin and Priyanka Chopra. Though one waits to hear an official announcement from the makers, one of the three making the final cut isn't being ruled out. Reason being all three of them share a good professional alliance with Sajid Nadiadwala after having worked with him over the years and a much hyped film like this only adds on to the profile.

"2 States is a love story of a Punjabi boy and a South Indian girl. If Sajid Nadiadwala would be looking at an actress who brings in a certain authenticity of playing a South Indian character, the choice boils down to only two heroines - Asin and Deepika Padukone - due to their roots. Moreover, Asin has a good experience of working in films down South as well so that's an added advantage. Incidentally, Sajid has a good tuning with both since he has worked with them in Housefull franchise", says a source.

Priyanka Chopra could well be in contention though the fact remains that she is not a South Indian and hence playing a part in 2 States would be quite an experiment.

"She is a capable actress though and if given an opportunity, she would go for it. After all, didn't she just pick the Maharashtrian traits so well in Kaminey as well as Agneepath. Moreover, she too has been Sajid's leading lady in Mujhse Shaadi Karogi and Anjaana Anjaani", the source adds.

On their part though, all three girls are keeping mum and it is a wait and watch situation for all involved. Since Sajid has till date not given an official confirmation around even Imran playing the main lead, it may be a while before Deepika, Priyanka or Asin get a call from the makers.

"Well, don't rule out the possibility of a surprise in store here. Who knows, it may turn out to be someone else altogether? This is Bollywood, anything is possible", the source quips.

Sajid Nadiadwala remained unavailable for comment.
