Bimal Roy gets a road named after him in Mumbai

9 Jan 2017

Bollywood resides in every corner of Mumbai and while suburban Mumbai is house to many celebrities and some happening locations, now it has a street named after a popular filmmaker. Legendary director-producer Bimal Roy and his classics have always been celebrated in the film industry. And now in honour of his work, a road in Bandra has been named after him. The said path named after Bimal Roy was inaugurated by politician and daughter of famous veteran actor Sunil Dutt, Priya Dutt on January 8 which was the 51 st death anniversary of the filmmaker. The signboard on the path has been designed by John Abraham s brother Alan. Expressing his happiness over the honour that his fathers work has received, Bimals son Joy, who resides in the nearby locality of Mount Mary Road, mentioned that his father moved to this locality of Mumbai in 1954. Joy also revealed that it was an important year in his life since he started working on his debut production Do Bigha Zamin that year. The Roy family has been trying to get a road named after the veteran filmmaker for the past few years, since Sunil Dutt was the MP and now finally they are more than happy to see their dream come alive. For the uninitiated, Bimal Roy is one of the most celebrated filmmakers in Bollywood and is known for films like Dilip Kumar starrer Devdas Madhumati Kabuliwala Bandini among others.

Hansal Mehta, Rajkumar team up for City Lights

5 Nov 2013

After the recent news about him not featuring in NH 10 , Rajkumar Yadav is said to have bagged the remake of Bimal Roy's classic Do Bigha Zameen , titled City Lights to be produced by Bhatts and Fox Star Studios.

While we hear that Rajkumar opted out of the Anushka Sharma starrer citing date issues, the actor seems to have had no problem in striking a deal for this Hansal Mehta directorial. Raj Kumar will be essaying the role of Balraj Sahni from the original.

The film has also been a victim of controversy after director Ajay Bahl walked out of it. The B A Pass fame director Ajay was initially roped in by the Bhatts for this ambitious venture but he backed out citing creative differences. Now, Hansal Mehta has been brought in, to direct the movie.

However, now with the director and lead actor in place, the movie is slated to go on floors early next month.
