EXCLUSIVE Varun Sharma steps into Deven Vermas shoes for Ranveer Singh and Rohit Shettys Angoor adaptation!

18 Oct 2020

Bollywood Hungama has been the only website to EXCLUSIVELY give all the updates about Rohit Shettys upcoming film with Ranveer Singh. We were the only ones to announce that the dynamic duo is reuniting on a film, and right after that, we were the first to reveal that the film in question is the official adaptation of Gulzars cult comedy, Angoor. Just few days later, we again were the first to announce that the film will feature Pooja Hegde and Jacqueline Fernandez in the lead. And now, Bollywood Hungama has again come up with an exclusive news break as the much anticipated comedy has roped in Varun Sharma to play the character of Deven Verma from the original film.Rohit was on the lookout for someone who aces in the comic space and after a lot of discussion with his team, he zeroed in on Varun Sharma. The other probable choices for the role of Deven Vermas double role were Rajkummar Rao and Aparshakti Khurrana, however it was Varun who eventually bagged the role, a source exclusively told us.On Saturday, Ranveer Singh was spotted at Rohit Shettys office, which more or less validated all the newsbreaks by us about the film and collaboration between the two. Surprisingly, Bhushan Kumar was too spotted at Shettys office around the same time giving rise to the speculation of him coming on board as the producer, with Rohit taking a break from his regular collaborator, Reliance. It could be a meeting for music too, but there lies a big chance of Rohit and Bhushan teaming up to form a formidable combo, the source further told us. In the film, both Ranveer and Varun will be seen in a double role which brings the house down with laughter. The film will go on the floors sometime in November and the entire team is all charged up to make an entertainer for the audience, in tough times like these, the source said. Angoor adaptation will be Ranveer and Rohits third collaboration after Simmba and Sooryavanshi.

EXPLOSIVE NEWS: Ranveer Singhs next with Rohit Shetty is the Angoor adaptation! Double Dhamaka

12 Oct 2020

Bollywood Hungama was the FIRST on the web space to break the news of Rohit Shetty and Ranveer Singh collaborating again after the blockbuster success of Simmba on an out and out comedy film, which is in the scripting stage. We have now exclusively discovered that the mass director actor duo is collaborating on the official adaptation of Gulzars cult classic comedy, Angoor starring Sanjeev Kumar and Deven Verma.Rohit Shetty has been trying to make Angoor remake for a while now and it is finally happening now with Ranveer Singh stepping into Sanjeev Kumars shoes. Rohit had planned to revisit Angoor in 2015 with Shah Rukh Khan in lead, however, things didnt materialize and the two collaborated on Dilwale. After that, he got busy with Golmaal AgainSimmba and Sooryavanshi. He has now got the much needed break in the Covid pandemic, and he utilised the time to fine tune and rework on the script of Angoor adaptation, a trade source told BollywoodHungama exclusively. Thats not all, Rohit is planning to make it on a massive scale and like all his previous adaptations, even this one will have an added tadka of Rohit Shetty.Bol Bachchan was essentially inspired by Golmaal, rather a commercial take on Golmaal. The same way, even Angoor is more of an adaptation in present time, and Rohit is just retaining the basic premise of how two identical twins lead to confusion. It is currently being scripted and the final draft is expected to be locked soon, following which they will move on to the other aspects of pre-production, including signing other actors of the ensemble, the trade source further told. Both Ranveer and Rohit are excited about the collaboration and at this point of time, the focus is on the script as adapting Angoor is a big responsibility and both of them are aware of the same. It will be a double role for Ranveer, and it will be a first in this space for Ranveer. They are planning it as the biggest Bollywood comedy till date, the trade source said. They are yet to decide on the title for the upcoming comedy. After the Angoor remake, Rohit Shetty will move on to Golmaal 5 with Ajay Devgn followed by another Ajay Devgn franchise, Singham.

Fox Star India pulls out of Takht, end of collaboration with Karan Johar

26 Mar 2020

One of Bollywoods most prestigious film production companies Fox Star India has been facing financial setbacks in 2020. First Meghna Gulzars Chhapaak and then Ashwini Iyer Tiwaris Panga have both underperformed severely at the box office. And now with Coronavirus playing havoc with the schedules and budget, we hear Fox Star India had pulled out of its collaboration with Karan Johar for the lavish costume drama Takht. Sources in the know say this could be the beginning of the end of Karan Johars collaboration with Fox Star. Johar and Fox Star have collaborated on several successful and not-so-successfulprojects during the past 10 years. But now with Fox Stars CEO Vijay Singh putting in his papers, the studio is re-examining its long-standing association with Karan Johar and Dharma Productions. The first casualty of this re-assessment is Takht which was meant to be the most expensive Dharma-Fox collaboration of all times. But then, God and Coronavirus had other plans.

Chhapaak director Meghna Gulzar opens up on Deepika Padukones visit to JNU

15 Jan 2020

Actor Deepika Padukone s visit to Jawaharlal Nehru University to stand in solidarity with the students and teachers who were attacked by a mob of masked goons on January 5 led to an uproar. After the visit, a section of the people took to social media to launch vicious attacks at the actress and even started trending #BoycottChhapaak. Meanwhile, a section of people also stood up in support of the actress, including several Bollywood celebrities. Now, days after the release of their film Chhapaak , director Meghna Gulzar has opened up about the incident. She said that we have to be able to separate between personal and professional. She stressed that what somebody does in their personal life and what they have done as a professional in a film needs to be looked at separately. She further said that it is important to understand why the film was made and what they are trying to say through the film. Chhapaak released on January 10 and clashed at the box office with Ajay Devgn and Saif Ali Khan starrer Tanhaji : The Unsung Warrior.Talking about the clash, Meghna Gulzar said that the decision was taken by the distributors and she felt that the distributors believed that both films are different and will find their audience. The Raazi director further said that it is extremely difficult to find a solo release considering how populated the film release calendar is.

Delhi High Court restrains Deepika Padukone starrer Chhapaak screening from January 15

11 Jan 2020

Deepika Padukone starrer Chhappak, helmed by Meghna Gulzar, is a story of an acid attack survivor Malti. The story is inspired by Laxmi Agarwal who was attacked by a 32-year-old man when she was merely 15 years old. The film is already mired in several controversies including Deepikas visit to JNU after students were attacked, copyright case over the script and now no credits given to Laxmi Agarwals lawyer Aparna Bhat. On Saturday, Delhi High Court restrained the screening of Chhapaak after no credits were given to the real-life lawyer. Justice Pratibha M Singh said that the restraint will be effective from January 15 for multiplexes and live-streaming apps, and on other platforms from January 17. On Thursday, Delhi Court directed the makers to give Aparna Bhat due credit and mention her in credits roll. Senior Advocate Rajiv Nayar represented Fox Star Studios while Senior Advocate Sandeep Sethi appeared for Meghna Gulzar. Senior Civil Judge Dr. Pankaj Sharma directed director Meghna Gulzar and the makers to give mention Bhats name in the credit roll. This court is of the considered view that facts are indicative that the pique of the plaintiff for interim injunction is well-founded and it is necessary that her contribution be acknowledged by providing the actual footage and the images. Helmed by Meghna Gulzar, produced by Fox Star Studios, Deepika Padukones KA Production, Meghna Gulzar & Govind Singh Sandhus Mriga Films, written by Atika Chohan and Meghna Gulzar, Chhapaak is set to hit theatres on 10th January 2020. Director Meghna Gulzar is all set to take us through the inspiring journey of an acid attack survivor in her upcoming film, Chhapaak. Chhapaak: Meghna Gulzar files affidavit against writer who claimed copyright; says suit filed with ulterior motives

7 Jan 2020

Chhapaak director Meghna Gulzar recently responded to the copyright allegation made against her and the team. On Tuesday, the filmmaker told Bombay High Court that copyright cannot be claimed on true events and incidents and sought the dismissal of a suit filed by a writer. Writer Rakesh Bharti had earlier claimed that he had penned a story on the life of an acid attack survivor on which the film is based. In response to the suit filed by Bharti, Meghna filed an affidavit. The affidavit, filed through Naik Naik and Companys advocates Ameet Naik and Madhu Gadodia, said the suit was wholly misconceived, frivolous, legally untenable and unmeritorious. The affidavit read that information available in the public domain is not protected under the Copyright Act and that the suit fails to make any case of copyright infringement. In the present case, the plaintiff (Bharti) has sought the protection of an idea of a film based on the story of an acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal. True facts and events are not entitled to copyright protection. Gulzar said in the affidavit. The director further said the suit has been filed with ulterior motives to gain undue publicity and to obstruct the release of the movie Chhapaak. The suit came up for hearing before Justice S C Gupte who posted it for hearing on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Bharti sought a stay on the film until the final hearing. The movie starring Deepika Padukone and Vikrant Massey is slated for release on January 10.
