'Sunflower season 2': Sunil Grover reveals traits of 'Sonu Singh' he wants in real life

24 Mar 2024

Sunil Grover, who reprised his role as the enigmatic Sonu Singh in 'Sunflower season 2', revealed the traits of the character that he wants in his real life.Created by showrunner Vikas Bahl and directed by Navin Gujral, the show features Sunil Grover in the lead role alongside Ashish Vidyarthi, Ranvir Shorey, Mukul Chaddha and Girish Kulkarni in other prominent roles. In a conversation with ANI, Sunil shared, "There are a lot of things in Sonu that I want to have, but I don't have them. But I think, Sonu likes to celebrate life. I also like to celebrate life. This is a common factor. Sonu, in any situation, finds something for himself. I also try to find something for myself in any situation. There are a lot of things that make me jealous of Sonu that I don't have. Like, no matter how bad the time is for Sonu like when the police came to arrest him. He doesn't pay much heed to the situation. He thinks he's his friend. So the way he looks at life is beautiful."In season 2, Rosie is a captivating bar dancer, who has inherited Kapoor's penthouse, raising more questions and spotlight to the case.Talking about how she is similar to her character from the show, Adah Sharma added, "It's a bit aspirational for me to be like that in real life. But I think, maybe I don't care about what other people think. Rosy too, wherever she goes, she feels that, yeah, whatever I'm doing, she seems, but she seems more in control of situations than I am in real life."Earlier, while throwing light on his character, Sunil said, "I like Sonu's character very much who lives in the Sunflower society. He looks very innocent. He also looks idiot sometimes, he takes the blame on himself for a murder that someone else has committed."Picking up from where Season 1 left off, police duo DG and Tambe, portrayed by Ranvir Shorey and Girish Kulkarni respectively, continue their relentless hunt for Kapoor's murderer. Rosie is a bar dancer, who has inherited Kapoor's penthouse, raising more questions in the case. As the story progresses, love and romance will flourish between Sonu and Rosie.'Sunflower Season 2' is streaming on ZEE5 from March 1.

"I had great regard for Mr Bhatt till fiasco happened": Ranvir Shorey talks about fallout with Mahesh Bhatt, Pooja Bhatt

17 Mar 2024

Ranvir Shorey has created magic on the silver screen with his roles. He has performed a variety of roles, each with his unique manner. However, the journey for him has never been easy. The 'Khosla Ka Ghosla' actor got candid about the fallout with Mahesh Bhatt and Pooja Bhatt. In an exclusive conversation with ANI, he shared, "I had great regard for Mr Bhatt (Mahesh Bhatt) till the fiasco happened when I was seeing his daughter (Pooja Bhatt). Then I saw that actually whatever respect I had for him was being used to manipulate me... very duplicitous behaviour going on."He also discussed the unfortunate demise of Sushant Singh Rajput, which has sparked debate over work culture in the film industry and how the ganging up happens in Bollywood. Shorey also spoke about being isolated, and bad-mouthing in the film industry. "And then this thing happened with Sushant a couple of years later and then I felt like I had to speak out. But all this is, you ask anybody from the film industry, anybody, most of them will say it off record, I can say it on record, I have no problem. This fully happens, you know, ganging up against someone, elbowing them out, standing on somebody's toes, scuttling somebody's career. This happens. This is a fact," he said.Shorey added, "It happens in politics, corporate and media too. But this part is not glamorous."The ace actor also recalled his bond with Sushant over physics. He shared, "I wouldn't say we were close, but we were friends. We worked together. He had been home a few times. And we got along quite well during the two-month-long shoot of 'Sonchiriya'. And we bonded over physics because both of us love physics. We had a lot of conversations on that.""I remember when we were shooting, there was an eclipse. It was a lunar eclipse and Saturn was lining up behind it. He flew down his big telescope from Bombay just for that. And when we were shooting in Dholpur, there was a big telescope in the garden. He called every one, drinks, you know, cocktails and snacks and all. And that's the only time I've looked through a telescope and seen it straight... There were three. Moon, Jupiter, Saturn lining up. With my eye. And I'm telling you, the feeling of seeing it through your eye via a telescope is very different from looking at it on a screen. There's something... I don't know what it is. It's a different quality of experience...fond memories," Ranvir added.Ranvir is known for his work in films including 'Jism', 'Lakshya'. He received much appreciation for his role in films such as 'Khosla Ka Ghosla', 'Traffic Signal', 'Bheja Fry', among others. He was also seen in 'Accident or Conspiracy: Godhra'. His recent show 'Sunflower season 2' is receiving a good response.

"Higher you go, more prevalent it is": Ranvir Shorey on PR and marketing in Bollywood

17 Mar 2024

PR and marketing tactics are known to shape narratives and influence industry players in Bollywood. Ranvir Shorey, an actor and former video jockey, candidly spoke about topics such as the prevalence of PR and marketing in the film industry. In an exclusive conversation with ANI, Ranvir said, "The higher you go, the more prevalent it is. There are entire careers made on marketing and PR. So it involves thousands of bot army and everything."In 2020, ace actor Deepika Padukone visited JNU to express solidarity with students. Shorey opened up if it was PR move and marketing strategy.Ranvir replied, "I'm not privy to any such thing. She has the right to go."He spoke about the difficulties of navigating contentious topics while shedding light on emerging ideas like intersectionality and the depiction of victimhood in cinema.Shorey shared, "In the beginning, after 2014, between 2014 and 2019, there was a protest against lynching. Mob lynching in the name of cows. So I went to one protest because I do believe human life is more precious than a cow's life. So I went to one. There I saw... I went there, and with that, there were other things too. Like, someone is standing, I don't know what, kill Brahmins, or kill Brahminism, something like that. I was like, what's happening? Whatever I had to do here, with this placard, if someone took this photo of me, then my own family would bury me.""So, after that, I just, whatever I want to say, I'll say individually on my social media or in an interview. I don't want to be part of it because there are too many agendas. Intersectional is the word nowadays, you know intersectional...vo gender se bhi pareshan hai, caste se bhi pareshan hai, sex se bhi pareshan hai, class se bhi pareshan hai.. mere ko smajh nahi aata ye ..and I'm saying in filmmaking, I've seen there are films in intersectionality. It is victim porn. And that has become a genre now. So, I believe films are art and entertainment," he added.Ranvir is a former VJ and actor. Since his debut in 'Ek Chhotisi Love Story' (2002), he has been in several films, including Jism (2003) and Lakshya (2004). He has also been in highly praised films such as 'Khosla Ka Ghosla', 'Traffic Signal', 'Bheja Fry' (2007), and Mithya (2008).He was also seen in 'Accident or Conspiracy: Godhra'. 'Khosla Ka Ghosla was stuck for 2-3 years in post-production...," reveals Ranvir Shorey

17 Mar 2024

Khosla Ka Ghosla'? This timeless cult comedy not only entertained audiences but also served as a turning point for actor Ranvir Shorey, catapulting him to stardom and transforming his career in Bollywood. In an exclusive conversation with ANI, Ranvir spoke about the impact of his film 'Khosla Ka Ghosla' on his career.Shorey revealed that the week 'Khosla Ka Ghosla' hit the screens was a major moment in his life."That week, actually there were two films, Khosla Ka Khosla and Pyar Ke Side Effects. They both released a week apart and it changed my life that week. It put me on the map. Since then, touch wood, I might have worked less in some years, but I've been doing steady work since then," the actor said.Recalling his initial impressions of the script, Shorey expressed admiration for its flawless screenplay and its lasting impact on him."I remember reading the script, shutting the last page, and telling myself, this is a perfect screenplay. I still remember it," he said.Shorey further spoke about the challenges the film faced during its production and post-production phases."...the fact is, after it got made, it got stuck for, I think, post-production money and other stuff for a couple of, two, three years. And we would meet as a team, all of us, Anupamji, Baman, me, Tara, Parvin, Jaideep, Dibakar. We would meet, kind of keep the spirit alive, you know, and try and, okay, you call this one, you know this one...You know, like a group effort to get it out there," he added.Speaking about the eventual success of the film, the actor said, "And then finally, when it came out, of course, everybody got redeemed, especially, you know, Dibakar and Jaydeep, who are, you know, incredible."On being asked about the sequel of Khosla Ka Ghosla, he said, "No, sequels are different. Obviously, in a sequel, you can't play somebody else."Dibakar Banerjee's 2006 film 'Khosla Ka Ghosla' is a delightful comedy that connects with viewers. The movie, directed by Banerjee, cleverly tackles societal issues such as property scams and generation gaps. With a talented ensemble cast including Anupam Kher, Boman Irani, Ranvir Shorey, Vinay Pathak, Parvin Dabas, Tara Sharma, and Kiran Juneja, the film's script, written by Jaideep Sahni, enriches its relatable plot.

'We bonded over physics': Co-Star Ranvir Shorey remembers Sushant Singh Rajput's love for astronomy

17 Mar 2024

In a recent interview with ANI, Ranvir Shorey, who played a pivotal role in 'Sonchiriya', walked down memory lane and remembered how he bonded with Sushant over physics. "I wouldn't say we were close, but we were friends. We worked together. He had been home a few times. And we actually got along quite well during the two-month-long shoot of 'Sonchiriya'. And we bonded over physics because both of us love physics. We had a lot of conversations on that," Ranvir shared. "I remember when we were shooting, there was an eclipse. It was a lunar eclipse and Saturn was lining up behind it. He flew down his big telescope from Bombay just for that. And when we were shooting in Dholpur, there was a big telescope in the garden. He called everyone, drinks, you know, cocktails and snacks and all. And that's the only time I've actually looked through a telescope and seen it straight... There were three. I don't know what it is. It's a different quality of experience...fond memories," Ranvir recalled. Sushant passed away in June 2020 in Mumbai. He was found dead inside his flat. His death was first probed by Mumbai Police, which later transferred the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which is yet to file a closure report.

"Don't think Sacred Games 3 will come," says Ranvir Shorey

17 Mar 2024

Sacred Games 3 come?" is one question that often strikes the minds of the fans of the popular Netflix thriller. It's been almost five years since the second season of 'Sacred Games' streamed, and to date, fans are waiting to know answers about what really went down in the finale episode. In a candid chat with ANI, Ranvir Shorey, who essayed a crucial role of Shahid Khan in the second season, talked about the series, revealing whether makers have plans to expand the franchise. On being asked about the third season, Ranvir said, "Ask Varun Grover, Anurag Kashyap... They are writers... I don't think the third season will come." Sacred Games is an Indian neo-noir crime drama based on Vikram Chandra's 2006 novel of the same name. It revolves around Sartaj (Saif Ali Khan), a cop, and his run-in with Gaitonde (Nawazuddin Siddiqui), the most wanted criminal, and what transpires after they come in contact with each other. Ranvir Shorey has been actively working on OTT platforms. He has done a couple of other projects on digital streaming giants besides Sacred Games. Sharing his views on OTT culture, Ranvir said, "What I feel about OTT is like... the theatrical system is controlled by, it's a closed room. It's a closed group controlled by some people. Therefore, this used to happen, film banao toh shows hi nahi milenge... milenge toh ek subah ka... so with OTT, now streaming platforms, it works as a pressure cooker's safety valve. It's like that. Which is that at least now you have some other way for filmmakers, actors, writers to reach the audience. But now in OTT too, biggies will try to control that also." "But OTT by its nature is very different. Because theatres, you have a fixed number of theatres, fixed number of shows. Right? And it's not like that in streaming. You can have an infinite number of shows, an infinite number of things playing there. And it depends on the audience what they go for. So, by its nature... It is more democratizing," he added.Ranvir started his filmy journey by making his Bollywood debut with 'Ek Chhotisi Love Story,' in which he shared screen space with Manisha Koirala. While he was already being noticed for his acting prowess after his debut, it was 'Khosla ka Ghosla' that brought him into the spotlight. He also starred in films like 'Jism', 'Bheja Fry', 'Mid Day Meeal', 'Traffic Signal', and 'Tiger 3' among others. His latest offerings were 'Sunflower 2' and 'Accident or Conspiracy: Godhra'.

Ranvir Shorey shares how he lost some close friends over differences in political ideology

17 Mar 2024

politics.Speaking to ANI, Ranvir shared," I don't think it (politics) gets in the way of if you're working like for example, I have some of my closest friends who are left-leaning and I get lectured and, you know, spoken down to about my stands and all. And I defend them. But the close friends that I have, I have lost some friends.""Since 2019, when I kind of put out a video, which was, because, you know, all these guys got together and they put out this list of people who had said, don't vote for, make sure you vote and don't vote for BJP. So I made a video about letting people decide who they want to vote and not tell them who they should vote for," he added When asked if actors lose out on projects due to different political ideologies, Ranvir said, "I think so. Yeah. I think so."Meanwhile, on the acting front, Ranvir is being lauded for his role in the second season of the OTT show 'Sunflower'.

"It's a constant battle for survival": Ranvir Shorey opens up about his films that never made it to big screen

17 Mar 2024

Ranvir Shorey has carved a niche for himself in Bollywood with his quirkiness and comic timing. In a career spanning nearly two decades, he has appeared in several big Hindi films and series. He gave noteworthy performances in several films over the years, including 'Khosla Ka Ghosla', 'Bheja Fry', 'Traffic Signal' and 'Singh Is Kinng'. However, many projects of him never saw the light of day.Speaking exclusively to ANI, Ranvir Shorey opened up about his films that have never come on the screen. He said, "I have worked in many small films. That's why you haven't seen most of my work. I have done mainstream, but very small parts in very few films. There is survival here in the industry. At least, I'm surviving. It's a constant battle for survival. Unless you're in the top bracket and part of the seven families. Below that, it's all struggle only. It's still going on."Talking about one of his shelved films 'Carry On Pandu', Shorey added, "There was a film called Carry On Pandu. Look at the cast. Me, Surveen Chawla, Anupam Kher, Om Puri, Mahesh Manjrekar. I'm forgetting more names. This was when? 10 years ago maybe. Percept produced. Fully ready, didn't come out. I don't know why. I don't know why."Recalling the time when he started his career and corporatization was a big thing and one of the reasons why films didn't make it on the silver screen. The 'Sacred Games' star said, "Behind the scenes, I'm not privy to what might have happened. So, here's the second thing that happened. I remember that time when I started my career in the 90s, it used to be corporatization. Corporatization used to be the buzzword. So, the dark side of corporatization is this. Assume that they have a whole year's budget say, for example, Rs 500 crores, they are investing in films. What happens is, your picture is something like 10-20 crores. So, suddenly, let's say the management changed or the guy changed or something happened in that. His priorities are different. He will say no, no, we don't want to do middle, mid-rung films, small films anymore. Let's go with the stars let's focus there. Tum jo chotu 10 crore vaala tha usko hatao write off."He also revealed how he dealt with such phases in his professional life.Shorey said, "Move on to the next thing. Never sit and wallow in self-pity and all that. Move on to the next thing."Meanwhile, Ranvir Shorey is receiving appreciation for his performance in 'Sunflower 2'. The web show also stars Sunil Grover and Adah Sharma. It is streaming on Zee5. ( ANI)
