Kunal Kohli to FINALISE a south actor to play Ram in Ramayan

3 Aug 2019

Kunal Kohli is all set to make a film on the epic Ramayana and well, we have exclusive update on the film. Kunal is set to finalise a South star for the role of Lord Rama but it is too early to reveal his name just as yet. There was a contention that he had signed television actor Ravi Dubey but when we asked him about the same, he clearly denied signing him for the movie. He said, Ravi Dubey has not been signed for Ramayana. Further talking about male lead he said, Yes, talks have been going on with a South based actor but since it in process, it will not be fair to reveal his name. Kunal said that all names of the cast will be revealed shortly. The makers are planning to reveal all the names together. Till then, lets keep the guessing game on. We had reported earlier that Kunal Kohli was fascinated by certain episodes of the epic and wanted to adapt it into a film. He also said that the movie will not have a political undertone and that he does not even pretend to understand the first thing about politics. Kohlis last film was Teri Meri Kahaani starring Shahid Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra in the lead roles. Kunal Kohli had also revealed to us that he wanted fresh faces for the film because established stars with image do not work with the Mythological theme and therefore it is better to take new promising actors. Kunal Kohli REVEALS the title of his next film about Ramayana Ramyug

16 Aug 2018

It seems that the epic tales of Indian mythology have attracted attention of filmmakers and producers. After Aamir Khan expressed his desire to take forward the twisted tale of Mahabharata, Kunal Kohli announced about his venture on Ramayana. While he is known for his romantic films, the filmmaker decided to experiment with this epic period drama for the first time. It has been titled Ramyug. The Hum Tum filmmaker took to Twitter to announce about Ramyug wherein he shared a glimpse of the films poster. Even though the filmmaker has announced the title, the casting and other details are yet to be revealed. Considering that it is one of his most ambitious, Kunal is keen on helming the film in a much grander scale. https://twitter.com/hashtag/RamYug?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw #RamYug my next film. Need your Love, blessings & support. https://t.co/PBegUMKB9D pic.twitter.com/PBegUMKB9D kunal kohli (@kunalkohli) https://twitter.com/kunalkohli/status/1030013019034710017?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw August 16, 2018 On the other hand, Kunal, who has already made his acting debut in the digital film Phir Se , also had maintained in the past reports that he wouldnt be acting in Ramyug. Kunal had also revealed that he will not only be directing the film but also producing it. On the casting front, the filmmaker wants to explore some new faces for the story. He had earlier also asserted that Ramayana will retain its authentic and traditional essence without making use of the trend of adapting it into contemporary forms. Ramyug is expected to go on floor this year. Although further details on the logistics etc. are yet to be made by Kohli, we hear that the director-producer is keen on releasing the film in 2019. I am not casting myself in my Ramayan Kunal Kohli

24 Jul 2018

Filmmaker Kunal Kohlis debut as an actor in Phir Se last year was a bit of a damp squib. Undeterred he pushes along to the most ambitious project of his life. Thats right. I am doing a new interpretation of the Ramayan. Why another? Because I feel the message and characters of the Ramayan are more relevant today than ever before. Were living in times when the Ramayan asserts its value to us in unexpected ways, says Kohli who last directed Shahid Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra in Teri Meri Kahani 6 years ago. So perhaps Shahid and Priyanka as Ram and Sita in Kunal Kohlis Ramayan ? No no! Not stars. I am going with relative newcomers in the Ramayan. It is important to cast unfamiliar faces in the Ramayan. Established actors with images do not work in the mythological context, says Kohli who feels there are episodes in the Ramayan he would like to use in his film. It is not possible to film the entire scripture. That was possible when Ramanand Sagar shot the Ramayan as a marathon television series. In a film one has to select certain portions. Kunal has zeroed in on the portions of the Ramayan he wants to shoot. Now the casting is in process. We plan to complete and release the film by next year. Is Kunal attempting to be politically correct by making the Ramayan at a time when Hindutva is a big political force? Not at all! I am not the least political. I dont even pretend to understand politics. My decision to film the Ramayan has nothing to do politics. Revealed: Kunal Kohli speaks about his next ambitious project which is the epic tale of RAMAYANA

If Aamir Khan is keen on adapting the epic story of Mahabharata for the big screen, heres Kunal Kohli who wants to make another mythological fare for the audiences. He is keen on adapting the epic tale of the Ram Sita Raavana story into a feature film and it will apparently not star any A-listers. Kunal Kohli recently spoke about the film to media reports stating that he is not just directing the film but also producing it. He further mentioned that he will launch relatively new faces in this epic tale but refrained to divulge any more details on them. Furthermore, he also asserted that the Ramayana will retain its epic sense and will not be adapted to any contemporary form. He mentioned that he wanted to feature all the characters in their real avatars as mentioned in the epic tale, rather than adapting it into the new generation story. Adding that he is excited about the same, he mentioned that he has been working on the film for quite some time now. He was last working on his acting debut film Phir Se The film, however, faced many setbacks in its release. And with it marking the film debut of TV actress Jennifer Winget, the film eventually gained prominence on the online streaming platforms. Speaking on his popular films, Kunal Kohli is known for directing films like the Aamir Khan, Kajol starrer Fanaa , Saif Ali Khan Rani Mukerji starrer Hum Tum along with Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic with the same couple. Speaking of his film on Ramayana, the said venture is expected to go on floor somewhere this year. It is scheduled for release in 2019 but the other details are yet to be locked! Songless Ittefaq to now have a remixed version of Raat Baaki Baat Baaki

7 Oct 2017

Unlike Hollywood films, Bollywood films are always replete with songs. Songs are such an important part of a film today that it becomes next to impossible to promote a film without releasing tracks. At times, the makers even shoot promotional songs that are played during end credits and sometimes, just to enhance the buzz for a film. At such point, the makers of Ittefaq , the upcoming film, had announced that their movie wont have any songs. It promised 100 minutes of non-stop entertainment and thrill with no songs acting as roadblocks. It was a risk but it helped as it automatically raised the curiosity value of the film. But looks like the makers now have a change of mind. The songless Ittefaq is now all set to have a song. The makers are going to recreate the popular track Raat Baaki Baat Baaki from the 1982 hit film Namak Halaal , starring Amitabh Bachchan , Parveen Babi and Shashi Kapoor. Tanishk Bagchi, who has worked on several remixes in recent times, including The Humma Song from OK Jaanu and Tamma Tamma from Badrinath Ki Dulhania , both produced by Karan Johar whos also co-producing Ittefaq.Tanishk Bagchi revealed that the song in question has a nice, haunting feel and seems apt for Ittefaq. He also revealed that the video of the song would be shot next week along with the films principle star cast Sidharth Malhotra Sonakshi Sinha and Akshaye Khanna. Ittefaq is the remake of the 1969 film of the same name. It is directed by Abhay Chopra and along with Karan Johar, Abhay himself and Shah Rukh Khan are also the producers. It is all set to release on November 3.

For Rs. 25 lakhs, there is no more stalling Kunal Kohli's Phir Se

21 Jul 2015

It is settled, sealed and dusted now for filmmaker Kunal Kohli and writer Jyoti Kapoor. When Kunal's acting debut for Phir Se seemed under threat, courtesy Jyoti alleging plagiarism charges against him for similarities with another story written by her, it seemed that the film had met a deadlock. Even though the promo of the film had been unveiled quite some back, everything came to a standstill when the matter reached court.

Well, not anymore as Kunal is free to release the film now. In return, Jyoti would be paid an amount of Rs. 25 lakhs as settlement. This is as per the decision that has been taken at the Supreme Court.

"I am happy as now we all can move on," says Kunal who took the Court's suggestion of 'mutual settlement' in his stride and agreed to the logistics, "The Court did make it clear that the film's release could not be stalled any further though the complainant could file a case and fight it out, if need be. None of us wanted to extend this any further. We are all members of the fraternity. I respect the suggestion and hence the subsequent call was taken." Jyoti didn't mind that either and the amount of Rs. 25 lakhs was acceptable for her to bring this matter to a close. Though few around Kunal did suggest that this was a case worth fighting it out further, he felt it was best to just move on from this point on.

"We are in the business of making films and not doing business with films. We are filmmakers; we are not here to fight cases. Ab picture dikhaani hai logon ko," said Kunal on a call from Delhi, where he had flown down for his date with the Supreme Court.

Back in Mumbai now, he is making plans for the release of the film.

"Usse pehle I am dying to reveal the songs to audience," says Kunal, whose music from Hum Tum and Fanaa is popular till date, "That has always been strength of my films and I am sure it would work Phir Se . Pun truly intended."
