The actor breathed his last in the early hours of Friday.Junior Mehmood's family friend confirmed the news and said, "He passed away last night at 2 am in Mumbai. He was suffering from stomach cancer and was not keeping well for the last few days. His last rites will be performed in Santacruz burial ground after today's afternoon prayers."Taking to Instagram, Nakuul shared pictures from the serial sets along with a lengthy note. The note read, "I had the great fortune of sharing sets with Junior Mehmood Saab in my very first television outing. I vividly recall filming our first shot together for the pilot and in time he set the tone for our relationship by fondly calling me Adi Baba on and off sets and I lovingly addressed him as Junior Sir! Whilst the set had a mix of some experienced and distinguished actors and then there were absolute newcomers.. In between all of them was one man with a cumulative experience of all of us. He served the arts for 55 years before he passed on yesterday but never for a moment made you believe or feel that he came from years of work, having worked with some of the greatest and being an inspiration himself to some wonderful comic talent which subsequently found their home in our industry."View this post on InstagramA post shared by Nakuul Mehta (@nakuulmehta)"He was always encouraging, very considerate of another actor's space and never for once made you feel like you did not belong. We called him Shanky Kaka and he was that actor and person on and off set who would never command attention but you take him off the show and something would not feel right. He was that invisible glue who would hold the show together and rarely got the credit that he in all fairness deserved. Knowing him, he'd be happy just to be on a set, living his childhood dream," he added.Nakuul continued, "Thank you for your kindness and that always encouraging smile. Being on a set with you made me so much better. Thank you for the memories, Junior Sir [?] P.S. Thanks @alekhsangal for sharing this picture from the distant past. Our man @ayushdas always with a knack for saving precious memories for posterity."Veteran actor Junior Mehmood, known for his roles in films like 'Kati Patang' and 'Aan Milo Sajna' among others, is currently battling with stage four cancer.Jr Mehmood's close friend Salam Kazi earlier told ANI, "He was ill for 2 months and initially we thought that he might have some minor problem but after that suddenly his weight started decreasing. And when the medical reports came, it said there was cancer in the liver and lungs and a tumour in the intestine and he had also developed jaundice. So the treatment going on, but the doctors said it's a stage four cancer."Actor Naeem Sayyed, popularly known as Junior Mehmood has been featured in over 200 films in different languages. He is best known for movies like 'Brahmachari' (1968), 'Mera Naam Joker' (1970), 'Parvarish' (1977), and 'Do Aur Do Paanch' (1980).

He was like my brother, when we did not have a car, he used to take us around during the struggling days."Raza Murad shared, "In 110 years of Indian films's history, there is no such superstar child artist like him has come till date in the industry. Whether it was Rajesh Khanna's 'Haathi Mere Saathi', 'Aan Milo Sajna', superstars also needed Junior Mehmood. He is the only child artist in history, who had his own audience, who was superstar in his own. His name used to create rhythm in the film. Distributors also wanted him. He was paired with Sheikh Mukhtar Saab. They were like master and apprentice."The actor added, "It was Junior Mehmood, who took me out of India. After he took me to Dubai, then to Bangkok. He never use to make films without me. Whether it was a video film or Marathi film, without me he never use to do shows. He was a very humble person. He was firm and true to his commitment. Such child artist has neither come till date nor will come in future."Avtar Gill, who also came to pay the last tribute to Junior Mehmood, told ANI, "Few days ago Johnny Lever told me about his health condition. You will be surprised to know that he was senior to me in the film industry. When he used to work in the films, I was in school. In college, I use to watch his movies. After that we kept on meeting and many times talked about working in the films. He was a loving person, whenever I met him, he greeted me well. The whole world knew Junior Mehmood as an actor but not as a person."He continued, "Three-fours days ago, I also did a video call with him. He was able to recognize but was not talking. So, I told I told I will come to meet you in one or two days. Then, suddenly got the news that he is no more. I didn't knew that he will leave us so early. I pray to god that his soul rest in peace. He was a good man. The work he has done, everyone and the whole world knows it. We have seen him working with superstars like Shammi Kapoor, Jeetendra, among others, there was no such star with whom he didn't worked with. He was one of the them who is called a born actor, be it a song, dance or scene, he always did a tremendous job. Padosan' completed 55 years, veteran actor Saira Banu recalled working in the movie and shared her shooting experience with Sunil DuttMehmood and Kishore Kumar. She took to her Instagram handle and wrote, "We are talking about one of the most favourite films of my career, mine, and the public in general. It is 'PADOSAN', a film for all occasions and ages. I am glad that I did this because I had refused any work soon after my marriage. It was understood that I would not be carrying on with a professional career."Banu continued, "It was then that Mehmood Bhai as he had earlier approached me for this film came running to Sahib, hugged him close, and kept saying in a rhetorical tone 'Yousuf Bhai you have to let Saira do this film for me. I will not let go of you until you say yes please please' Sahab was tickled to the bone and kept repeating laughingly 'Mehmood it is entirely up to Saira, You have to convince her. You have my absolute permission."Recalling further how the ace actor Mehmood approached legendary actor Dilip Kumar to allow her to be part of this film, she said, "At that time everyone knew that Sahib had shifted his venue of shooting to the South and Mehmood very considerately committed to Sahib that he would shoot the film in Madras with me to facilitate Sahib and I being together. This was the 'Cherry on the Cake' and I said Yes to PADOSAN. I am glad that unlike the dozens of films that I let go of PADOSAN and PURAB AUR PASCHIM were not one of them."The veteran actor added, "Mehmood Bhai shared scenes from the Tamil version of PADOSAN, and I laughed my guts out. We started shooting in Madras, and goodness it was a gathering of comedians, creating history with this film. The cast was so perfectly chosen that even I was initially surprised to see Dutt Saab as a simpleton 'Gaonwalla', I mean who could have imagined it? Dutt Saab would humorously say, 'Sairaji Yeh Kyaa Hain, Yeh Hum Kyaa Kar Rahein Hain? Hamein Toh 'Anthony and Cleopatra' May Kaam Karna Chahiye, Something Romantic and Glamorous."She concluded with, "Until PADOSAN, I hadn't worked with Dutt Saab, who turned out to be lively and funny. On the contrary, Kishore ji was a very subdued gentlemanly star who would get up from his seat respectfully as soon as any Lady walked in. The shooting was a killer. I used to laugh uncontrollably so much that the Unit would turn off all the lights and say 'Ruk Jao, Abhi Madam Hass Rahin Hain'. It was that difficult for me to stop. Later, I will be sharing anecdotes about PADOSAN that are both funny and interesting.#55YearsToPadosan"Directed by Jyoti Swaroop, the musical comedy film 'Padosan' was released in 1968. It featured Sunil Dutt and Saira Banu in lead roles along with MehmoodKishore Kumar, Mukri, Raj Kishore and Keshto Mukherjee. The film was produced by Mehmood and N C Sippy. The film was a remake of the Bengali film 'Pasher Bari', which was based on a short story of the same name by Arun Chowdhury starring Bhanu Bandyopadhyay and Sabitri Chatterjee.
In this in-depth and heartfelt interview, Aruna Irani also addressed many rumours that made tides during the '80s and '90s. When asked about Mehmood's role in her career, Aruna heaped praises on him saying that he helped her a lot in making a career in the industry. But, she continued, he (Mehmood) also somehow became the reason behind her not getting work for a couple of years. She also addressed rumours about her alleged marriage with the actor during the time. She talked about her equation with Mehmood and how it turned sour later. She said, "I was more than a friendly person to him. 'Woh hota aise hai ki jab main industry mein aayi thi toh mujhe koi kaam hi nahi de raha tha. Jab Mehmood Sahab ke saath maine kaam shuru kiya unhone mujhe kaam dilaana shuru kiya. (When I entered the industry, nobody was ready to give me work, Mehmood Sahab gave me work)."She continued, "Kya bolu...he was such a big helper. Aaj meri duniya jo badal gayi thi, mujhe kaam milne lag gaya tha, mera ghar sambhal gaya tha unki wajah se toh mujhe lagta tha ki khuda ka bhej hua aadmi hai. Toh ek emotions...hote hote...kab liking badh gayi. I know he was a married man, we couldn't get married. That's why hum bhaut aage nahi jaa sakte the, lekin we were more than friends...so, he made my career, even I used to like him. (He was a big helper. Because of him, I earned money and recognition, my world turned upside down, the condition of my life got better and I started to think of him as a God-sent angel! Then, I didn't realise when I started liking him...I know he was a married man, we couldn't get married, that's why we couldn't go much ahead in the relationship, but we were more than friends).""But jab meri yeh film bani, 'Bombay to Goa,' usme bhi unhone meri help ki...sab kuch theek tha...ab jab picture release hui aur ek rumour baahar aayi ki I am married to Mehmood. Mujhse koi puchne nahi aata tha. He was a star and a married man so naturally log unko hi pehle puchte the..suna aapki shaadi ho gayiso he just used to nudge. Matlab, na haan bolte the, na naa bolte tha...that spoiled my career. Kyunki, Mehmood Sahab se agar shaadi ho gayi hai toh Mehmood sahab toh ab isko kaam nahi karne denge. See how he made my career and how he ruined it. Unhe lagta tha ki agar ye heroine ban gayi toh he will be left alone! (When I was cast in the film Bombay to Goa, he helped me initially but after the film released there were a few rumours about me and him getting married and he didn't clear the air. Whenever anybody would ask him about the alleged wedding, he just nudged. He didn't respond with an affirmative 'yes' or 'no' and that spoiled my career. Because people assumed that my alleged marriage with him meant he would not allow me to continue working, and hence, I stopped getting roles. See how he made my career and ruined it)," she concluded. When asked about her marriage with Kuku Kohli, She said, "When you get married to a married man, it gets very difficult. Jaise aaj (Presently), I am married to a married man. I was married, but nobody knew I am married. Now, I think she (Kuku's first wife) had some problems, she died a year back. Tab main himmat se baat bhi karti hoon, nahi toh I never used to talk (after her demise, I could own my marriage in public eyes)...because I didn't want to hurt anyone. My affair, my relationahip with Kuku Kohli was not there to hurt anybody or snatch away somebody. This is the first time I am talking about Kuku Kohli."She continued, "I could never talk about him..industry knew that I was with him, journalists ko bhi maalum hota that (even journalists knew)...It's not easy for a person to marry a married man, I didn't have a child because of that."Meanwhile, on the work front, the veteran actor will be seen in the upcoming romantic-comedy film 'Ghudchadi' alongside Sanjay Dutt, Raveena Tandon, Parth Samthaan, and Khushalii Kumar.
Mehmood's sister and veteran actress Minoo Mumtaz aka Malikunnisa Ali passed away today due to deteriorating health conditions. She was diagnosed with cancer a few days ago, which worsened her condition and lead to her demise today. The actress took her last breath today in Toronto, Canada where she was residing with her husband Sayyed Ali Akbar, son, and three daughters. The news was confirmed by her nephew Naushad who says, "Since she was old, 80 plus, there wasn't much to be done. She was one of the loveliest people I had ever met". Her younger brother Anwar Ali, who is also a part of films and has now turned a producer, wrote, "Regret to inform that my loving sister Minoo Mumtaz, passed away (in Canada) a few minutes ago... Deep gratitude to the film fraternity, press, media, fans, friends, for decades of love and adulation showered upon her".Malikunnisa is the sister of legendary comedian Mehmood Ali.
