New Delhi [India], April 22 : Veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty was conferred with the prestigious Padma Bhushan award for his outstanding contributions to Indian cinema. The actor, known for his iconic performances, expressed his heartfelt gratitude upon receiving the honour. "I am very happy. I have never asked for anything for myself from anyone in my life. I am very happy because when someone receives so much respect and honour... it's the happiest moment," Mithun said while speaking to ANI. Reflecting on the moment he received the news of being awarded the Padma Bhushan, Mithun said, "When I received the call informing me that I was being awarded the Padma Bhushan, I was silent for a minute because I hadn't expected it... because it's a big thing. But I didn't expect it. I am happy. Thank you to everyone on the committee who selected me." Fondly called 'Mithun Da' by his fans, the actor made his debut in films with Mrigayaa in 1976, and since then he has been entertaining audiences with his versatile acting skills. Mithun's portrayal of a Santhal rebel earned him the National Film Award for Best Actor in his first film. Later, he won two more National Film Awards for his roles in Tahader Katha (1992) and Swami Vivekananda (1998). In his decades-long career, Mithun Da also created a name for himself by featuring in chartbuster dance tracks including 'I Am a Disco Dancer (Disco Dancer)', 'Jimmy Jimmy (Disco Dancer)', and 'Super Dancer (Dance Dance)'. Most recently, he was seen in Vivek Agnihotri's movie 'The Kashmir Files.' The Padma Awards, which were instituted in 1954, are one of the highest civilian honours of India and are announced annually on the eve of Republic Day. The awards are given in three categories: Padma Vibhushan (for exceptional and distinguished service), Padma Bhushan (distinguished service of higher order), and Padma Shri (distinguished service). The award seeks to recognise achievements in all fields of activities or disciplines where an element of public service is involved. The Padma Awards are conferred on the recommendations made by the Padma Awards Committee, which is constituted by the Prime Minister every year. The Padma Awards Committee is headed by the Cabinet Secretary and includes the Home Secretary, Secretary to the President, and four to six eminent persons as members. The recommendations of the committee are submitted to the Prime Minister and the President of India for approval.

(West Bengal) [India], February 22 : Filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar met veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty on the sets of 'Shastri' in Kolkata. On Thursday, Madhur took to Instagram and shared a video and photos where he can be seen talking with Mithunda. The video starts with Madhur saying, "I am currently in Kolkata on the sets of 'Shastri,' and I am delighted to be with none other than the great Mithun Chakraborty, Mithun da."Mithun, sitting next to Madhur said, " I have known this man since his young age." He added, "He used to sell video cassettes. My wife would call him and say, 'Madhur I need this cassette,' and he would come. Now look, this man is a five-time National Award winner. This only happens when your dream comes true. I always tell people that your dreams should come true. Hard work and all will happen, but dreams should come true".Madhur expressed his admiration for Mithunda, saying that he has been a fan for quite some time. He also praised Mithun for his professionalism, highlighting that the actor always paid him on time and even provided advances when needed.Along with the post, Madhur wrote, "I met @mithunchakrabortyofficial in #Kolkata and was thrilled to see him back on set, in great health. My bond with Mithunda dates back to my teen years when I used to deliver video cassettes. He has always been a source of courage and inspiration. #fanboy #MithunChakraborty." Recently, Mithun has been admitted to a hospital in Kolkata.He reportedly expressed uneasiness on his return home from a film shoot and was rushed immediately to the hospital, where he is undergoing treatment.
Mithun Chakraborty was admitted to a hospital in Kolkata on Saturday morning. Now the hospital has issued an official statement regarding the health of 'The Kashmir Files' actor. Mithun has been diagnosed with an Ischemic Cerebrovascular Accident (Stroke) of the brain. The statement mentioned that the actor was brought to the hospital with complaints of weakness in his right upper and lower limbs. He is currently receiving the necessary treatment and remains under the observation of a team of doctors. The official statement reads, "Shri Mithun Chakraborty (73), National Award-winning actor, was brought to the Emergency Department of Apollo Multispeciality Hospitals, Kolkata, around 9.40 am with complaints of weakness in the right upper and lower limbs. Necessary laboratory and radiology investigations were carried out including an MRI of the brain. He has been diagnosed with an Ischemic Cerebrovascular Accident (Stroke) of the brain. Presently, he is fully conscious, well-oriented and has consumed soft diet. Shri Chakraborty is being further evaluated by a team of doctors including a neuro-physician, cardiologist and a gastroenterologist." Chakraborty was recently named as a recipient of the Padma Bhushan Awardees 2024. Fondly called Mithun Da by his fans, the actor began his career with the Mrinal Sen-directed film 'Mrigayaa', which fetched him the National Film Award for Best Actor. 'Disco Dancer', 'Agneepath', 'Ghar Ek Mandir', 'Jallad' and 'Pyaar Jhukta Nahin' are some of his other popular films. Chakraborty joined the BJP party in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Kolkata's historic Brigade Parade Ground, commonly known as the "Maidan", on March 7, 2021.
