Vidyut Jammwal commemorates his tenth year in cinema with the launch of his home banner Action Hero Films

19 Apr 2021

It has been an uphill journey for Vidyut Jammwal, who clocks a decade in Indian cinema and wants to now fulfill his dream of backing stories he believes in. The fitness star debuted in the Indian film industry with a Telugu film, Sakthi and then in Hindi cinema with Nishikant Kamat's Force in the unforgettable role of a villain ten years ago. Celebrating the ten-year mark in the Indian film industry, the KhudaHaafiz actor launches his home banner, Action Hero Films with Abbas Sayyed on board as Co-Producer.The inspiration for the establishment of Action Hero Films arose from Jammwal's philosophy of always moving and being in action. As someone who kicked off his career as a rank outsider, the actor endeavoured to create a space to empower talent and bring interesting stories to the celluloid.Setting up Action Hero Films is the actor-producer's forward move in the direction of making quality Indian cinema that has aspirational value. The banner intends to foray into as many diverse genres as possible and churn out movies that can be held in esteem across the globe. Likewise, the content will be sharp and relatable for the admirers of Indian films all over the world.Vidyut says, The viewers have embraced and loved me in every character and this time around I am donning the role of a producer with their blessings. It's my turn to give as good as I got. I see this as an opportunity to empower talented people. I'm buzzing with new energy to lay the footprints of Action Hero Films across world cinema. A big thanks to all the Jammwalions for standing by me. This is their milestone as much as it's mine.

BREAKING: Abhishek Bachchan to be directed by Nishikant Kamat in KriArj Entertainments next

27 Mar 2017

Earlier this year in January, we had reported that KriArj Entertainment had signed a six film deal with John Abraham s production house. Now we hear that the makers of Rustom will be collaborating with Kyta Productions for their next untitled venture. Though no official confirmation is available on this new deal, a source close to the developments stated that KriArj Entertainment and Kyta Productions have apparently roped in Nishikant Kamath to direct the film. If that wasnt all, the source further adds that the yet untitled film will feature none other than Abhishek Bachchan in the lead role. Apart from this, though the makers are keeping details under wraps, we hear that the film will be a thriller drama and Abhishek who has already read the script is pretty kicked about commencing work on the same. While no specific prep work for the film is needed, the shoot for the same is expected to commence later this summer in May, with an expected release date towards the end of the year in winter. As of now, an official announcement on the same is expected in the coming days.

Exclusive: Nishikant Kamat to play the villain in Rocky Handsome

1 Feb 2017

Readers may recall that Bollywood Hungama had reported about the ace director Nishikant Kamat teaming up with the hunky John Abraham for Rocky Handsome.Besides John Abraham, the film also stars Shruti Haasan , Nathalia Kaur amongst others. Besides the aforementioned starcast, there is a surprise element about the film that had been kept under the wraps for so long. And Bollywood Hungama just did the needful by spilling the beans. News is that, besides directing the film, Nishikant Kamath will also be seen playing the role of the villain in the film. Speaking exclusively to Bollywood Hungama , Nishkant Kamat told about how he bagged the role. He said, I have this habit of tonsuring my head after every film of mine. And when Rocky Handsome was being made Lai Bhaari had just released. It so happened that the person who was supposed to play the villain in Rocky Handsome developed cold feet at the eleventh hour and he backed out of the film. One of my assistants saw me and told Sir, aapka look perfect hai.(Sir, your look is perfect for the role). After a lot of thought process, I agreed to do the villains role. My characters name is Kevin Pereira and given the fact that I look like a Goan in real life, I got away with the role. When asked to describe his look in the film, Nishikant Kamat summed it up stating menacing and also that John was initially shocked when he found out that his director was playing the villain. Rocky Handsome , played by John Abraham is the journey of an unforgiving man who embarks on a lethal rampage when the only person he cares about is kidnapped and taken away from him. The film has been set in Goa, Mumbai, Pune & Seychelles. The film portrays a strong emotional story of the relationship between a father who never had a daughter and a seven year old daughter who never had a father. The film is being readied to release on 25th March, 2016

Madaari makers miffed with Great Grand Masti's preponement?

9 Jul 2016

The makers of the sex comedy Great Grand Masti must be congratulating themselves for their quick-thinking strategy of preponing their film after it was leaked online. The film, which was to be released on July 22, would now be released on July 15, thereby generating an unexpected competition for Nishikant Kamat's political thriller Madaari featuring Irrfan Khan. Madaari has now been shifted from July 15 to July 22 since the high-profile Great Grand Masti 's producers Balaji Films and Ashok Thakeria were expected to now block a majority of the screens and theatres for the sex comedy, leaving Madaari with the leftover outlets on July 15.

While outwardly, the Madaari team feigns resignation at the unexpected turn of events, a source from the film says angrily, "This is the exactly kind of intrusion that kills the movie business. We had announced Madaari for July 15 three months back. Suddenly, this raunchy sex comedy comes to bite us from behind. Not fair! Look what happened to Shah Rukh Khan's Dilwale when it insisted on coming in the same Friday as Bajirao Mastani . " However, just a day before the Madaari was postponed, director Nishikant Kamat remained outwardly unperturbed. " Madaari and Great Grand Masti belong to completely different genres. They both have a mutually exclusive audience. As long as they both get enough screens, they should not affect each other." Producer Shailesh Singh admitted this was an unexpected setback, but, was determined to release Madaari as per schedule. "I don't think the two films are competition for one another. But, they are coming on the same Friday. What happened with Great Grand Masti -the online leakage - was very unfortunate. Now, the two films will bear the consequences." Hours later, the Madaari producers took a collective decision to flee competition from the sex comedy, never mind if it was leaked online.

Nishikant Kamat reveals Madaari is based on the Andheri metro bridge collapse

12 May 2016

Madaari, the thriller directed by Nishikant Kamat which opens on 10 June will feature Irrfan Khan as a vigilante seeking non-legal redress for a flyover that comes crashing down in a busy part of Mumbai.

For the first time director Nishikant Kamat admits that the film is based on the ghastly collapse of an under-construction metro bridge in Andheri Mumbai on September 4, 2012. But Kamat says the real-life accident is the triggering point for the plot. "The incident is just a backdrop. My film is plotted around the repercussions of this incident."

The director doesn't deny the real-life parallel. " Madaari is about an under-construction metro bridge which fell a couple of years back in Andheri, Mumbai. But if you recollect my 2008 film Mumbai Meri Jaan , it also was based on the backdrop of a tragic catastrophe, namely the Mumbai train bombings on July 11, 2006. But the film was about human emotions. As usual my attempt is to explore the complexities created by an unfortunate event." Interestingly Kamat who is known for his remakes goes original in Madaari . Says the director, "True I've done a lot of remakes. But Mumbai Meri Jaan in Hindi, Dombivali Fast in Marathi and Laal Bhari in Marathi were originals. So is Madaari. But even this film borrows from a real-life incident. In a sense all art is non-original."

John Abraham to take on Batman and Superman on March 25

10 Feb 2016

It's apocalypse time at the Indian box office, what with John Abraham's Rocky Handsome ready to take on Zack Synder's summer Hollywood extravaganza Batman Vs Superman Dawn Of Justice which features Henry Cavill as Superman and Ben Affleck as Batman.

Director Nishikant Kamat feels the action scenes in Rocky Handsome take the action genre in Bollywood to the next level. "We had to make sure the action scenes surpassed whatever John had done in his earlier films, or for that matter whatever was attempted in the action genre before this." Kamat feels the stunts in Rocky Handsome are unique. "They are stylized yet raw and real. If you ask me for a reference it would have to be Transporters ." Kamat conducted a 3-week action workshop with John. "He has a very pumped-up gym-designed body. We needed John to be more agile. We prepared John for the role in Bangkok. We had an action team from Bangkok and India." Rocky Handsome which is the Hindi remake of the Korean film The Man From Nowhere would also have television actor Sharat Kelkar attempting some daring stunts. "The endeavour was to go one-up on what was attempted in the Korean film. Let's see how far we've succeeded," Nishikant Kamat has his fingers crossed.

Bollywood movies which took a beating from Hollywood spectacles: •   Dibakar Bannerjee's Detective Byomkesh Bakshy released alongside Furious 7 •   Muzaffar Ali's Jaanissar released alongside Mission Impossible Rogue Nation disappeared without a trace •   Mohit Suri's highly awaited Hamari Adhuri Kahani released alongside Jurassic World was a shocking disaster.

•   However the global blockbuster Star Wars The Force Awakens released a week after Bajirao Mastani and Dilwale last December, could not affect the ticket sales of the two blockbusters.

•   The release of Avengers Age Of Ultron was preponed by a week to avoid a clash with Gabbar Is Back . Commenting on the clash trade analyst Taran Adarsh says, "Should Bollywood feel threatened by Hollywood? Yes, it should. Hollywood offers interesting plot lines with a larger-than-life canvas. There is a sizable chunk of audience that favors Hollywood films. And when most big Hollywood films are released simultaneously and dubbed in local languages, the danger to Bollywood releases is even more pronounced."
