Veteran actor Pran was honoured with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, for lifetime contribution to Indian cinema. The Dadasaheb Phalke Award is the highest cinematic honour bestowed annually by the Government of India.
The 93-year-old actor who has appeared in 350 films from the 1940s to the 1990s is known for his portrayal of both positive and negative roles with equal passion. Among Pran's most notable films are Ram Aur Shyam, Purab aur Paschim, Karz, Upkaar, Zanjeer, Don, Amar Akbar Anthony to name a few.
Veteran actor Pran who has been ailing for some time is back in hospital barely a month after he was discharged in November. And though his daughter Pinky, when contacted, maintains that he is better, friends of the family are not that optimistic about the veteran actor's health any more.
"He is getting on. Pran saab is a fighter. But one can't really fight old age beyond a point," a colleague said.
However the family maintains Pran Saab is recuperating in hospital.
The versatile actor's daughter Pinky who is currently shuttling between two ailing family members -her father and mother-in-law-- in two different hospitals says, "He's (Pran Saab) better. However he cannot have any visitors at the moment."
In the meanwhile the makers of the neo- Zanjeer who wanted to cast Pran Saab in a token cameo have now decided to pay the actor's celebrated character Sher Khan from the original Zanjeer , homage.
The Manna Dey song ' Yaari Hai Imaan ' which Pran Saab sang to glorious immortality in Zanjeer 39 year years ago will now be recreated and put across on screen by Sanjay Dutt who plays Sher Khan's role in the neo- Zanjeer .
Says a source from Apoorva Lakhia's Zanjeer team, "We thought of dropping the song altogether since there were too many copyright hassles. But now we're determined to get the song at any cost. You really can't have Sher Khan in Zanjeer not singing ' Yaari Hai Imaan '."
Veteran actor Pran, who was admitted and later discharged from Lilavati hospital in Mumbai last month following respiratory problems, has once again been admitted to the hospital's Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
Legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan again paid his good friend and colleague Pran a visit in the hospital and wrote on his blog, "Pran, colleague, senior and one of the finest gentlemen of this beautiful fraternity, lies in ICU, and I visit him too ... prayers for him for his speedy recovery. I speak to him, masked for purposes of infection riddance, and he sees but does not recognise ...he has a tracheostomy done, so cannot speak ... he was in hospital a few days back and I had visited him ... he seemed perfectly all right ... but he has had a relapse and I wish him well ..."
We at Bollywood Hungama wish Pran saab a speedy recovery.
Legendary actor Pran, who was admitted in Mumbai's Lilavati Hospital for over a week, following respiratory problems is now stable and has been discharged. Pran saab is 92 years old.
It was diagnosed that Pran had pneumonia but thankfully he is now much better and was discharged on Saturday. He is being taken care of by his daughter Pinky Bhalla and sons Arvind and Sunil.
