Ustad Rashid Khan, who passed away on Tuesday afternoon, was laid to rest with state honours in Kolkata on Wednesday. He also received a gun salute as part of his final rites. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was in attendance at Rabindra Sadan, where the mortal remains of the late singer were kept, to pay tribute to the Indian classical vocalist Ustad Rashid Khan. Ustad Rashid Khan, 55, was undergoing treatment for cancer at a hospital in Kolkata. He breathed his last at a hospital in Kolkata on Tuesday. On Tuesday, the West Bengal CM condoled the demise of music maestro Ustad Rashid Khan and said he was "one of the greatest exponents of Indian classical music of our times." BJP leader Locket Chatterjee also paid his last respects to the late singer. Belonging to the Rampur-Sahaswan Gharana, Ustad Rashid Khan beautifully carried forward the legacy of his great-grandfather Inayat Hussain Khan. His initial training was under his maternal grand-uncle, Ustad Nissar Hussain Khan. He was only 11 years old when his debut concert took place, and since then he never looked back and gradually found a strong foothold in Hindustani classical music. One can't forget his adding chaar chaand to the "mehfil" with him singing thumri Yaad Piya ki Aaye popularised by Bade Ghulam Ali Khan, the Patiala gharana exponent. Ustad Rashid Khan also enjoyed a successful stint in playback singing in Indian cinema. 'Aaoge Jab Tum Saajna' from Kareena Kapoor Khan and Shahid Kapoor-starrer 'Jab We Met' and 'Allah Hi Rahem' from Shah Rukh Khan's 'My Name is Khan' are some of his memorable tracks that he created in Bollywood. Needless to say, Ustad Rashid Khan was one of the finest Hindustani classical vocalists. With a musical career spanning over four decades, Ustad Rashid Khan was also a recipient of various prestigious awards and honours including Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan. After learning about his demise, many noted personalities including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President Droupadi Murmu and Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar paid their condolences. Ustad Rashid Khan is survived by his wife, two sons and a daughter.

Updated: Aug 25, 2021 - 1:58 PM IST Bollywood actor Manoj Bajpayee has filed a criminal defamation complaint against former actor and self-proclaimed film critic, Kamaal Rashid Khan. The complaint has been filed in an Indore court for allegedly posting a derogatory tweet against Bajpayee under IPC section 500 (punishment for defamation).According to the reports, Bajpayee's lawyer Paresh S Joshi has urged the court to register a criminal defamation case in the matter. The tweet in question was posted by KRK on July 26 which tarnished the image of Bajpayee, according to the lawyer. The actor personally recorded his statement in court.Meanwhile, Manoj Bajpayee was last seen in ZEE5's 100 and Amazon Prime Video's The Family Man 2.

The Bombay High Court has censured Kamal Rashid Khan alias KRK for his controversial and defamatory tweets against producer Vashu Bhagnani, his family, his business, his profession as well as all his projectsKRK has been stopped by the Bombay High Court from putting out any further tweets against Vashu Bhagnani and all his business interests till the pendency of the Rs. One crore defamation suit filed by the veteran producer for defamatory, slanderous, and distasteful statements as well as patently false allegations on KRK's Twitter and YouTube accounts.As per the court order, an injunction has been issued, pending the final disposal of the suit, that in simple terms, prohibits "the defendant from publishing, circulating or repeating the allegations and tweets and/or making, publishing, circulating and/or communicating to the public any defamatory/slanderous comments and/or statements against the plaintiff and/or his family and/or his business, profession and/or his projects.Social media is a very powerful tool, which on many occasions is misused to defame reputed persons. Courts have time and again deprecated such misuse. This is yet another occasion where the Honble Bombay High Court has passed an order restraining Kamaal Khan from making slanderous and defamatory remarks against Mr. Vashu Bhagnani, his family members, his business, and his projects. This is the third order of Bombay High Court against Mr. Khan in succession Ameet Naik - Founder and Managing Partner - Naik Naik & Company.After hearing the matter at length, the court observed that the tweets are not in the nature of criticism given by a film critic, which is contrary to the defence of KRK and are in the nature of serious defamatory and slanderous remarks made against Vashu Bhagnani, his family members, his business, profession and his projects.The court's actions came soon after KRK made light of the suit and put out another series of slanderous tweets against the Bhagnanis. The producer was represented in court by advocates Ameet Naik, Virendra Tulzapurkar, Rashmin Khandekar, and Madhu Gadodia.
