Not many may be aware that legendary actor Shammi Kapoor who lived life to the fullest was down with a kidney failure and used to go to the Breach Candy Hospital thrice a week for his treatment. As Kapoor himself once admitted that he wanted to live for the four other days of the week. When my wife would call me to enquire where I was I would be driving off to Lonavla to have a cup of tea. I loved my driving and I wanted to live it up with kidney disease, Shammi had famously said.As World Kidney Day approaches on March 11 and a virtual walkathon is currently taking place this week, we learn that Ranbir Kapoor, the grand-nephew of Shammi Kapoor has also pledged to donate not just his kidney but other organs as well. In an event organised by the Amar Gandhi Foundation everyone from producer Karan Johar, director Ayan Mukerji of Brahmastra to Ranbir Kapoor and Amitabh Bachchan pledged to donate their kidneys while Alia Bhatt also supports the cause."A real hero is someone who helps everyone else recycle their organs. I have pledged my own organs and you can too and visit www.amargandhifoundation.in to register," Ayan and Karan posted videos also pledged his organs and asked everyone else to do so.
Kunal Kemmu and Vijay Raaz are starring in an upcoming film Lootcase which is a mixture of drama, comedy and a joyful ride. While the film is set to release soon, it has been revealed that it will have a recreation of a song Aaj Kal Tere Mere from Shammi Kapoor film, Brahmachari. The song was originall picturized on Shammi Kapoor and Mumtaz and it is still one of his classics. The song will be re-created in Lootcase. In case of this film, it will help magnify the madness of the plot. The director also said that they have not tampered with the Shankar Jaikishan. Instead, they have incorporated the same song as it is in the film. In the film, everyone is running around trying to find the red bag and are willing to go to any lengths to get to it. Kunal Kemmu is the one person who seems to have accidentally found the bag and the very minute that he does he forms a connection with it refusing to ever let go. Lootcase will see Kunal Kemmu in the lead along with Gajraj Rao, Rasika Duggal, Ranvir Shorey, and Vijay Raaz. The movie is directed by Rajesh Krishnan and produced by Fox Star Studios and Soda Films Productions. Lootcase is all set to release on October 11, 2019.
Well, the trailer of Fanney Khan gave us a deeper insight to the story of the life of the protagonist Anil Kapoor. The film features him as a singer in an orchestra and while the trailer gives a glimpse of his die-hard fandom for Lata Mangeshkar, let us tell you that he also loves yet another legendary singer Mohammad Rafi and will be seen crooning to some of his iconic chartbusters. One amongst them that will feature in the film is Badan Pe Sitare Lapate Hue.The popular Shammi Kapoor chartbuster from his 1969 film Prince that also stars yesteryear diva Vyjayantimala, will be a part of Fanney Khan. However, the song will not be recreated in any sense except the video and the voice. Anil Kapoor will be seen singing the original song with its original music but the voice is given by Sonu Nigam. Speaking on the same, debutant director of Fanney Khan , Atul Manjrekar stated in reports that Sonus name was suggested by Anil Kapoor himself and he will be able to do justice to this late Rafi number. On the other hand, also elaborating on the song, Manjrekar reportedly mentioned that the film that features Anil Kapoor as an orchestra musician will have the actor playing the role of a Rafi and Shammi Kapoor fan.Atul described his character as someone who idolizes and worships these two legendary stars and he will also be performing some iconic Shammi Kapoor moves too. Furthermore, referring to this as more of a tribute to the veteran singer and actor, he added that Anil too was excited to do this number. He went on to speak about how Anil Kapoors father Surinder Kapoor has worked with Shammi Kapoor in the past and how Anil as a child would not only love to meet him but also often sing and dance to Badan Pe Sitare. So this was one of the main reasons why this evergreen B-town star immediately agreed when he was presented with this opportunity. As for Fanney Khan , the film also stars Aishwarya Rai Bachchan , Divya Dutta, Rajkummar Rao, Pihu Sand amongst others. It is produced under banners Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra Pictures and T-Series and is slated to release on August 3. Yesteryears' screen queen Asha Parekh is the latest to join the growing gallery of Bollywood icons who are subjects of books on their lives. While books on Shatrughan Sinha (written by journalist Bharati S Pradhan), Shammi Kapoor (written by veteran journalist Rauf Ahmed) and Shashi Kapoor (written by US-based critic and journalist Aseem Chabria) have already hit the stands, some of other biographical subjects on the anvil are Kamal Haasan, Rishi Kapoor, Asha Bhosle, Shabana Azmi, Waheeda Rehman and Pran.
The latest Bollywood icon to join the biographic brigade is Asha Parekh whose success ratio in the 1960s and early 70s is rivalled by none of her female colleagues.
Disarmingly unassuming and loathe to tom-tom her achievements, Asha Parekh laughs in embarrassment about her stardom. "Yes, there were many successful films. God was kind. I was labelled the 'Jubilee Girl' because of the number of golden and silver jubilees. When a well-known journalist (Khalid Mohamed) expressed keen interest in doing a book on me, I was in two minds. One can't lie about one's life in a biography. Neither can the book be only about my work. At the same time I cannot hurt people's sentiments in telling the truth about myself. There are families involved."
Ashaji says the biography will take some time. "Writing down my thoughts and experiences is easy. It's the photographs that are a problem. There are so many of them to go through and select. And each has a bundle of memories attached to it."
Shammi Kapoor and Geeta Bali's son Aditya Raj Kapoor who is a filmmaker, actor, author and a bike aficionado wonders about the Bhagwan Dada bio-pic entitled Ek Albela in Marathi to be directed by Shekhar Sartandel.
Aditya's mother the legendary Geeta Bali will be played by Vidya Balan.
Speaking on the project for the first time Aditya says, "No one has approached me about information on my mother on this film. We know nothing about it except what has appeared in the public domain. Which is fine. I am sure the makers are capable of doing justice to the film. But I could have told them so much about Geetaji. No one knew her the way I do. I was only 9 when she suddenly died. But she left an indelible impression on me and my sister."
Aditya wonders which aspect of his mom's life the film will touch on. "Is it just the film Albela ? There are so many undisclosed aspects to my mom's personality."
Aditya is now in the process of writing a biography on his mother Geeta Bali. "It will be out by next year. It will go into areas of her personality that no one knows about. Do you know she was responsible for my father Shammi Kapoor's 'yahoo' image? She pulled him out of his obsession with socialist cinema and gave him this new wild sexy image. My father's famous dance moves were actually my mother's steps. If you see her dancing in Kidar Sharma's Jab Se Tumhe Dekha Hai she moves exactly the way my father became famous doing."
Aditya shows full faith in Vidya Balan's ability to play his mother in the Marathi film.
"She is a very capable actress. And I am sure she will play my mother with dignity grace and conviction. If at any time Vidya or the film's director wishes to talk to me about my mother I would most be willing to do so."
Rishi Kapoor (Shashi's nephew and co-star in Kabhi Kabhie, Doosra Aadmi and others films) is thrilled that his uncle got honoured by the Dadasaheb Phalke award. He however had one question to ask. "Our family is thrilled that Shashi Uncle has been honoured. It's a great day for the Kapoors. Thank You India, thank you Government of India and thank you audience for believing in the Kapoors. My only question to the government is, why has it not conferred this same honour posthumously on my other uncle Shammi Kapoor? No one can deny that Shammi Uncle too left an indelible mark with his unique acting style, "said Rishi.
He soon got back into celebratory mood and continued, "Having said that, let me not sound like a spoilsport. Let me confess I am delighted! Shashi Uncle is the third member of our family to win the Padma and the Phalke awards. Before him, my grandfather Prithvi Raj Kapoor and father Raj Kapoor received the same. Shashi Uncle has championed the making of the so-called art films at a time during the 1970s when Hindi cinema was churning out masala potboilers. He did the so-called potboilers too, but invested his money in thoughtful cinema like 36 Chowringhee Lane, Vijeta and Utsav . Aaj kal multiplex ka zamana hai. And the kind of films that Shashi Uncle championed are still being made for a niche audience, films like Queen, Badlapur, Dum Laga Ke Haisha and NH10 . Shashi Uncle made the Prithvi Theatre into a reality for budding directors and actors to express themselves on stage. He worked relentlessly as an actor and producer and theatre enthusiast. He made a mark in several films and finally got the National award for New Delhi Times ."
