"I burst into a flood of tears: Zeenat Aman recalls shooting for Chanchal Sheetal Nirmal Komal with Shashi Kapoor

13 Sep 2023

Zeenat Aman is one of the vetran actors who became trendsetters and broke down the traditional and shy image of Indian women on-screen in the era of 70s and 80s. She became popular for her bold looks and style statement and became an inspiration for many in that era. She has given a number of hits and one of her iconic films is Satyam Shivam Sundaram with Shashi Kapoor. The Don actor took to her Instagram handle to share a memory associated with the 1978 Raj Kapoors directorial romantic drama. She posted a still with her co-star Shashi Kapoor from the track Chanchal Sheetal Nirmal Komal. This beautiful fantasy song was sung by legendary singer Mukesh.Aman shared that when she was told about the sequence of the track she burst into a flood of tears and she also asked her fans to watch the video. She started her post with, Shashi ji and I in a still from the song Chanchal Sheetal Nirmal Komal. Giant mushrooms, pink clouds, bellowing smoke, enormous flowers, sexy outfits, otherworldly propsthis fantasy song sequence from Satyam Shivam Sundaram went the whole nine yards. Id go as far as to call it something of a psychedelic trip!Zeenat continued, Few people know of the drama that went on behind the scenes though. My director Rajji was an aesthete to the core, and was known for working with some of the most beautiful performers from the south - the likes of Vyjayanthimala and Padmini. He also had a taste for classical dance, and had conceptualised this entire song with that in mind. But this was my first film under the RK banner, and I was not a classical dancer by any stretch of the imagination. When Rajji narrated the sequence to me, I burst into a flood of tears! I was convinced I would make a fool of my self and sink the entire film. Through hiccups and sobs I explained my predicament to him. Rajji laughed. What will I do with you convent girls and your two left feet? he exclaimed, added the The Great Gambler actor.Aman further shared how the Greatest Showman of Indian cinema instructed choreographer to teach her the mudras of the song.He did do something of course. He instructed legendary choreographer Sohanlal to teach me mudras but not any complicated choreography. Simultaneously, genius costume designer Bhanu Athaiya created a range of sensational outfits, and art director A. Rangaraj mounted a stunning set. And thus, the SSS team created a wonderland, she said.I highly recommend that you find the video on YouTube and give it a watch. Its a visual delight, and I would love to hear your thoughts on it, she concluded. The actress has worked in films such as 'Satyam Shivam Sundaram', 'Hare Rama Hare Krishna', 'Qurbaani', 'Dhund', 'Don', 'Manoranjan' and 'Yaadon Ki Baarat'. She was known for doing unconventional roles in her era when many actresses were reluctant to take up those characters.

'Mere paas maa hai' to 'ammi jaan kehti thi': Bollywood dialogues that celebrate motherhood

13 May 2023

1. 'Mere paas maa hai'Remember the iconic dialogue from Late Yash Chopra directed 'Deewar'? The conference has mesmerized everyone and people even use it in memes nowadays. This one is still regarded as the most famous dialogue of all maa dialogues. In the scene, Shashi Kapoor being a cop confronts his nefarious brother (Amitabh Bachchan).2. 'Tu abhi itna bhi ameer nahi hua, ki apni maa ko khareed sake'True that! Another dialogue from the same movie by Nirupa Roy. Salim-Javed Akhtar gave so many legendary dialogues that made every scene in this movie irreplaceable. Such scenes prove that a mother's DNA comprises of selfless and unconditionally that no money can buy. This movie was released in January 1975, and stars iconic actors of Bollywood like Amitabh Bachchan, Shashi Kapoor, Nirupa Roy and Parveen Babi.3. 'Ammi jaan kehti thi koi dhanda chota nahi hota'The famous dialogue, 'Ammi jaan kehti thi koi dhanda chota nahi hota' Aur dhande se bada koi dharam nahi hota' from Rahul Dholakia directed 'Raees' by megastar Shahrukh Khan continues to echo amongst us and provide a zeal to do something in life. Mothers are our first teacher and their nurturing shape us into good humans they do have a unique perspective on their children's lives and can often offer valuable insights that can help their children navigate difficult situations. In this sense, they can be an invaluable source of wisdom and guidance.4. 'Bhagwan har jagah nahi hota hai, Isi liye toh usne maa banai hai'The dialogue by Late Sridevi from the movie 'Mom', touches your heart in a different way. This popular sentiment expresses the idea that mothers are an embodiment of God's love and nurturing qualities. It conveys that moms are often seen as protectors, caretakers and the next best one after god, who provides us with a sense of security, comfort and care.5. 'Jab ladki jawan ho jati hai, toh maa uski maa nahi rehti sehali ban jaati hai'Have we all girls not found our true best friend in our moms? Another dialogue by Farida Jalal from 'Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge' is every mother-daughter's true story! The relationship between a mother and daughter can evolve and change over time. As the daughter grows, they may start to develop a sense of independence and maturity, and their relationship with their mom shifts to become more of a friendship. Even after this shift, the mother plays a unique and important role in her daughter's life, offering a source of wisdom, experience, and unconditional love.6. 'Maa ke Dil ko dukha kar aaj tak koi khush nahi raha hai'Another famous dialogue of Shahrukh Khan from the blockbuster movie 'Devdas' is a lesson for everyone that teaches the importance of treating mothers with kindness and respect. It suggests that when someone intentionally or unintentionally hurt their mom, they not only harm the mother, but also potentially damage the relationship between the her and child, and create negative emotions that can linger for years to come. The statement also suggests that, in the end, hurting a mother's heart does not bring anyone happiness. Even if the person who caused the pain initially derives some pleasure or satisfaction from their actions, they will eventually come to realize the true cost of their behaviour and the toll it takes on themselves.7. 'Chot lagto hai to admi maa maa hi chilata hai'Quite relatable! This dialogue from 'Airlift' by Akshay Kumar highlights the need for a mother we all have, especially in times of distress or pain. When someone is hurt or experiencing a difficult situation, they naturally and instinctively call out for their mom, seeking comfort and support from the person with whom they share a strong emotional bond that exists between a mother and her child. This bond is often forged in early childhood and can endure throughout a person's life, providing a sense of security and comfort even in the most difficult of circumstances.

birth anniversary, let's revisit some of his notable works on screen.Jab Jab Phool Khile (1965)Directed by Suraj Prakash, this movie stars Shashi and Nanda in the lead roles. Directed by Samir Ganguly, this film is about romantic tensions. Captain Ajit Kapoor (Shashi) fell in love with Kamini (Raakhee). D Burman's music made the movie a popular choice.Deewar (1975)Who could forget the powerful line, "Mere Paas maa hai..." Directed by Yash Chopra, this movie saw the duel between Amitabh Bachchan's Vijay and Shashi Kapoor's Ravi. Fate brought two brothers at the two ends of a spectrum, a cop and a criminal. The movie is still talked about for its powerful dialogue.Kabhie Kabhie (1976)Another gem by Yash Chopra in which Amitabh Bachchan, Shashi Kapoor, and Raakhee immortalised the love saga. Cine lovers are of the opinion that this film was ahead of its time. This love saga across generations captures a complex thread of man-woman relationships.Trishul (1978)Yash Chopra did not let Shashi off his major films in the 70s. Written by Salim-Javed, this movie brought the stalwarts of the 70s in one frame. Shashi Kapoor, Sanjeev Kumar and Amitabh Bachchan.Ages passed, and the language of films changed over the years. But Shashi's solid performances in these movies are still treasured and loved across age groups.

But the actor couldnt stop appreciating when he found out that his Race 3 colleague Bobby Deol too has found passion in fitness. On the occasion of Bobby Deols birthday, which was a couple of days ago, many of his well-wishers took to social media to extend their wishes to the actor. One amongst them was his Race 3 co-star Anil Kapoor. Its a pleasure working with you For the uninitiated, this will be the first time where Bobby Deol is being associated with Race 3 whereas Anil Kapoor has been a part of it since the start. Panipat: Shashi Kapoors son Kunal Kapoor to play this ROLE in the Arjun Kapoor, Sanjay Dutt starrer

15 Nov 2018

Of late, there have been quite a few additions in the star cast of the forthcoming magnum opus of Ashutosh Gowariker Panipat. The film, as the name suggests, is based on the third battle of Panipat and will feature Arjun Kapoor Kriti Sanon and Sanjay Dutt in lead roles. Now reports have it that Kunal Kapoor has joined the star cast and he will play the Subedar Nawab in the film. It has been confirmed that Shashi Kapoors son Kunal Kapoor will be returning to the big screen after four years with Panipat as the Subedar Nawab of Oudh, Shujuad-Daula. The film, that showcases one of the most destructive battles fought between the Marathas and the King of Afghanistan Ahmad Shah Abdali and his allies, will feature Kunal as one of the allies. Besides the Subedar Nawab of Oudh, Rohilla Afghans of the Doab are yet another group of Indians who pledge their support to Abdali. Speaking on the same, producer Sunita Gowariker spoke about why she decided to have Kunal Kapoor on board. She explained his role of Shujuad-Daula in the reports stating that he had one of the most humungous armies then and the Marathas as well as the Afghanis were in constant bid to have him as their ally. Hence, the role of Kunal is considered to be quite prominent in this historical drama. For the uninitiated, Kunal Kapoor had gone on a three decade long break from Bollywood and returned in 2015 with Singh Is Bliing. He essayed the role of Amy Jackson s father in this Akshay Kumar starrer action drama. Besides him, Mohnish Behl, and Padmini Kolhapure are amongst the ones who will be seen in prominent roles of Nana Saheb and Gopikabai respectively. While Arjun Kapoor will be seen as Sadashiv Rao Bhau, Kriti Sanon plays the leading lady and further details on the same are yet to be revealed. After recreating Shanivaar Wada, Panipat is expected to go on floor this month. Also Read: Mohnish Behl will mark his return on the big screen with the Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Kapoor starrer Panipat

Simi Garewal to do a special tribute for late Shashi Kapoor!

26 Jul 2018

The Indian Film Festival of Melbourne 2018 has announced its regional films list, with critically acclaimed films due for screening at the largest film festival in the Southern Hemisphere. The English film category spans the marvellous films from different regions of India, with equally brilliant films from across the country. Shashi Kapoors 1972 film Siddhartha will be screened at the festival this year to commemorate the late actors immense contribution to Indian cinema. The film, which is based on a book of the same name by Conrad Rooks, who also directed the film, shows the journey of Siddhartha who engages in the search of meaningful way of life. Simi Garewal, who was Shashi Kapoors co-star in the film, will be hosting the screening as a special commemoration for the late actor, following which she will also engage in a special Q&A session with the audience who would be flying down from various parts of Australia and New Zealand. Siddhartha keeps getting a resurgence every new decade. And in the West, I find that even though Shashi has done a lot of films with Ismail Merchant, people still remember him for Siddhartha. Recently, I was asked to present the film at a festival in London and pay tribute to Shashi. I just talk about Shashi before the screening, what I know about him and my feelings, my friendship and my work with him and I just talk to them about that. So thats the tribute, the happy moments I shared with my dear, dear friend, the celebrated actress and host said. Also Read : SHOCKING!
